Cassi Hurd is a professional hair and makeup artist in New York City. As a licensed cosmetologist, hairstylist, and certified makeup artist, her experience covers all aspects of the entertainment industry including film, fashion, editorial, television, in-salon, bridal, print, commercial, and sales.

How did you start your career?

- I first moved to NY 6 years ago knowing I wanted to do hair for film and TV. I took every job I could get and worked for free to learn the business. I worked with several different individuals who taught me all aspects of the industry.

What is your schedule like during this Fashion Week?

-My schedule this fashion week is hectic, I am juggling the several regular network shows I work with and a few for fashion week. It is believe it or not not as crazy as usual though. Fall fashion week is always much MUCH crazier for me.

What artists do you look up to?

-I look up to my mom as an artist. She is one of the best makeup artists I know. She is the reason I was inspired to go in to the beauty industry in general. She co-owns my business with me and is just an inspiration in general, business wise, talent wise, and over all character.

What are the products you could not do without in your kit and could recommend to our readers?

-I LOVE the liquid eyeliner and salmon concealer by eve pearl. I also love Benefit's Erase Paste. These products can literally get rid of or hide any blemish or imperfection. I also absolutely can NOT live with out Oscar Blandi's Dry Shampoo or Redken's Quick Dry Hair Spray.

What inspires you (music, fashion, people) etc right now?

- I am huge into Nikki Minaj, I was late to the Nikki band wagon and really didn't understand her at first but recently I have just been so blown away by her talent and drive. She is a huge role model. And of course I have always loved Jay-Z :)

What should we expect at the upcoming Chic Studios Open House?

- The Chic Open House is going to be great. Valentine's Day is creeping around the corner quicker than I think any of us really wanted or expected so we will see a lot of romantic looks that can be taken from day to night. Braids are HUGE right now so we will definitely be incorporating that in as well. I can't wait to share with the potential students some new trends and talk to them about what they can gain from our full courses.

Christmas Eve is coming and we wanted to bring some makeup ideas to the table. One of the looks which always goes well with a Holiday theme is The Iconic Red Lip! BE CREATIVE: Everything from hollywood glamor to pink-red shades will make you sparkle this night!!

Ancient Mesopotamian women were the first to invent and wear lipstick. They crushed semi precious jewels and used them to decorate their lips! Cleopatra had her lipstick made from crushed carmine beetles, which gave a deep red pigment, and ants for a base.

In 16th century, during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I bright red lips became fashionable. Back then, lipstick was made from a blend of beeswax and red stains from plants.

In United States lipstick was colored with carmine dye in 19th century. And since carmine dye was expensive and considered to be theatrical, only a few actors and actresses would wear it in public. By 1912 fashionable American women considered lipstick acceptable!

To create this look Chic Studios recommends to apply liner to your lips first, and cover with gloss after. Use some concealer to correct!!

The Honourable Daphne Diana Joan Suzannah Guinness was born 9 November 1967 in Hampstead, London.

Guinness has designed a range of clothing with Dover Street Market and released a fragrance with Comme des Garçons in 2009.
Daphne is famous for her haute couture collection. She has been collecting fashion for several years.

Daphne Guinness is one of the speakers during the Symposium at the Museum at FIT this year. She draws from her personal collection, which includes spectacular garments by designers such as Azzedine Alai¨a, Alexander McQueen, Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel Haute Couture, and Valentino.

In 2006 her friend Shaun Leane created a gold and diamond arm glove for Daphne. The glove took five years to create and is considered to be one of the most technically advanced pieces of jewels in the world. The glove is called 'Contra Mundum' or 'Against The World'.

Daphne Guinness was a model in Naomi Campbell's Fashion for Relief runway show for the White Ribbon Alliance to raise funds for mothers in Haiti in 2010.

In September 2010, NARS Cosmetics launched a new collection dedicated to her.

This year Daphne is collaborating with MAC Cosmetics for a "color collection" (eye shadows, lipsticks, etc.) that will debut this winter.

While creating a picture in 1916, American movie director D.W. Griffith designed the first set of false eyelashes. The eyelashes were created out of human hair and gauze by a wigmaker.

Celebrities have been surprising us, wearing ubercreative designs made out of beef (Lady Gaga; Cindy Fabre has recently modeled in chocolate bikini. The essence of clothing and food has been reinterpreted. A fine artist Sung Yeonju created the whole series of food dresses called "Wearable Foods". She used photography as her main medium to create her vision!

This tasty outfit was designed by Benjamin Brass and constructed by Puyricard, an artisan chocolate-maker.

Korean Artist Sung Yeonju took the art world by storm with her incredible series of dresses made of various foods, entitled "Wearable Foods".

Yeonju started her "Wearable Food" series two years ago. The designer used eggplant, tomatoes, and bubblegum to create beautiful dresses and corsets.

Another interesting example of "Food Dresses" is Lady Gaga's dress made out of some choice cuts of beef.

Franc Fernandez is the man behind the controversial meat dress made from 40 pounds of flank steak. The look was styled by Nicola Formichetti.

What have you been up to since graduating from Chic?
Since graduating from Chic Studios I have done a few photoshoots, an independent film, a music video for MTV's Dylan DilinJah, and I am also 1 of 2 Key artists for the Plitzs shows for New York Fashion Week. I have a few weddings lined up as well.

What has been your favorite gig thus far?
Every gig has a different feel and atmosphere however, my favorite gig thus far would probably be New York Fashion Week.

What is your schedule like during this Fashion Week?
My schedule for this fashion week is crazy! I had 10 shows for Plitzs on Saturday September 10th and 12 shows for them on Sunday September 11th as well as the Morgan Carper show on Sunday morning. Then I have the Stacy Lomman show on September 16th!

What three products could you not do without in your kit?
The 3 essential products that I absolutely CANNOT live without is my MAC Fluidline, my Makeup Forever Flash Palatte, and my OCC Lip Tars!

What artists do you look up to?
I admire Ve Neil. She is more Special Effects makeup but I just look up to her so much! I met her at The Makeup Show in NYC and it was truly the first time that I was speechless. I just stare at her work and try and figure out how she did it and what products she used.

What do you love right now?
I am really inspired right now by art such as oil paintings, mainly Kevin LLewellyn. His art is darker in spirit but mindblowing. I am also inspired by music,
I will listen to a song and try to create a story based around the makeup.
As far as designers go I am a Betsy Johnson girl yet I LOVE Rebecca Taylors new line for NYFW. It is very feminine with different patterns and textures but with light airy materials.
I have traveled around the world and one of my all time favorite places that just continues to inspire me is Paris, not only is it the fashion capital of the world but it has a certain spark about it that just lights up the imagination and creativity.
